Immunizations to travel - HELP

Ok - we need help or advice -
we must have a few immunizations before we travel - I"m getting conflicting information from all sorts of places - anyone out there know anything - PLEASE comment here and we can touch base or email me a gmbackus@Hotmail.com

anyhow - trip 1 - we will travel south so I know yellow fever (need the yellow card) and probably typhoid.  but then there is malaria pills, Hep A, Hep B, tetnus and a few other things I know Nate gets as routine - we may need boosters.

the health department doesn't have these things - some but not the big ones and the costs vary from $50 - $155 for a yellow fever shot -its insane!  Just insane!  we need to actually take out a loan to get our shots covered - yes crazy - but what can we do.  Oh well.

so any one have advice - we want to be protected - but not sure we "need" everything - but also don't want to get sick traveling either or getting our kids sick.

Nate's lucky - honestly don't think he will need anything - he's all caught up and he won't travels south!

Crazy.
thanks
Gail

We were able to get the Hep A and B from the health department. Not sure on the other stuff. I know some went to an international health clinic.

We both already had our Hep A and B, but Joy needed to update her Tetanus and I decided to get the Meningitis vaccine, since I had never gotten it before. We also both got the yellow fever shot, oral typhoid pills, and anti-malarial pills. Fortunately, our health insurance and HSA was enough to cover the majority of the cost. Not sure that we definitely needed all of those, but just in case :-)

Leaving tomorrow!!!

We got- Hep A and B, malaria pills, typhoid, yellow fever and tetnus. Def all worth it!!! Better to be safe than sorry! Try and get some cipro to take when you travel because if you get sick while you're there it will clear it up asap! Our insurance did not cover the shots but we got rid of our deductable for the year lol! -Megan

wow - lots of comments - THANK YOU everyone - I can't even tell you how thankful I am to get people to help with info! we're probably gonna go get them all - I agree better safe then sorry - I can't imagine NOT getting something - even at a cost that could protect us and our kids - not worth going around the world to meet our son only to get some horrible illness and worst case - can't go there.

I will go to the health dept - but may just get it all over - we did pick a clinic -not really based on price - just that they take adults AND kids AND honestly - could get us in THIS Friday - easier. So for our schedules - may just get it all over with at this time - at least the first round of the shots for the hepatitus. Craig may need to go see his primary and get some boosters - but oh well.

I have always wanted the hep B series and never was able to get work to pay for it at any job - and I"m safety - so now I"ll get it. My cousin died from it - so I'm a huge supporter of that series. And glad to see its available for kids now - Nate's had all that's available -

anyhow - shouldn't be too bad - and the cipro will be good to get just incase too - thanks everyon
